Today we managed to get most of the shooting part of the robot finished. Now all that is left is the conveyor belt! We will attach the rack-and-pinion gears later.

We had a little change of plans today. Instead of having the entire center of our robot move up with the base on the ground for elevation, we decided to have only 1 pair of rack-and-pinion gears on one side with a gear box with a shooting system on the other. The rack-and-pinion gears will be connected to a platform directly above the robot and have a conveyor belt leading to the top. We have currently finished the rack-and-pinon gears and will begin the shooting system next time.
Today we made a lot of progress. We were able to build a rudimentary base and shooting mechanism for our robot. We also figured out a rack-and-pinion gear system and made 4 of them for our robot.
However, we ran into a few problems like the weight of the shooting section of our robot (it can't be too heavy) and the attachment of the rack-and-pinion gears. Next time, we will work on the shooting mechanism and find another system for collecting balls. Here are some useful websites
-http://cirobotics.weebly.com/ms-robotics -http://vexrobotics.com -http://www.vexforum.com/ -http://www.vexrobotics.com/wiki/Main_Page Today we started to make designs for our robot. We have 3 designs right now. Design A involves a paddle that collects balls that could later move up with a rack-and-pinion gear. Behind the paddle would be a hole into which balls could be collected and shot out from the top. Design B involves a similar idea, but this time the entire rail around the main robot would go up and dow. Though we hadn't initially thought about it, a mechanism like that could help us with elevation. That would give us 50 points if done right! So we made Design C, one that enabled elevation and shooting at the same time. The shooting contraption on top can fold down to make a flat surface and the ramp in front could help a robot up. The entire center part could also move up and down with rack-and-pinion gears. We will go with Design C. Next time, we will start to build the robot. The vex competition for the years 2015~2016 is "Nothing But Net." Nothing but net is a game where you try to score goals in the net at the two adjacent corners.
The file above has the rules and we will refer to this when we are designing, making and playing! |
